Anne Cunningham studied Printed Textiles at Middlesex University (BA hons) and subsequently set up her own design studio in Shoreditch London, where she has worked as a successful textile designer for 20 years. Since living in Cambridge, she has developed her passion for colour over many years and in many media.
The starting points for this series of collages are colours sketches, parts of which are then enlarged and developed. Although the works that result are predominantly abstract, through their use of colour and texture they make allusions to landscape. In this way, Anne plays with how painting can subtly refer to something outside of itself - weather, seasons, places - that resonate emotionally with the viewer’s own visual experiences.
